Zomer in Nederland, lopen tijdens een lome zondagmiddag langs een huis achter een grote heg in de buurt van Lottum in Limburg. Koeien die lekker aan het chillen zijn in de wei, mais dat wiegt in de wind. Klaar om binnenkort geoogst te worden. Lekker varen over de Maas vanuit Venlo.

Castle Kaldenbroek Limburg
After seven months of not being able to meet due to Corona, my mother and my sister and our partners spend a few days together in this old house which is actually a castle. It was nice to spend time together after not being able to meet because we had to be extra careful because of our ongoing cancer treatments and my mothers age we are all at high risk. We could sit in the garden and drink tea and lassies, play a few VR games and share dinner together.
Along the river “De Waal” Nijmegen
You can never miss out on a stroll along the river “De Waal” when in Nijmegen. There are always nice views to be seen over the water and the clouds that are floating by. You can go for a walk, or have a bite or a drink on de “Waalkade”.
“Marker Wadden” an artificial island in a lake that once was the sea

An artificial island, Marker Wadden, recently opened for public in a lake, Markermeer, where once was the Zuiderzee. The Zuiderzee was cut off from the North Sea in the 1930’s by the Afsluitdijk. The salt water disappeared and the lake Markermeer emerged, in 2016 the artificial island “Marker Wadden” was created using sediments from the Markermeer to construct spawning areas, islands and natural shores such as beaches and wetlands.

Last of the Friesland series. View from a dyke over a field with horses grazing, even further away in the distance is the sea and the Wadden Islands. Empty rows in a harvested field. A field with grain in the summer, a tree in the distance, rather reminds me of the vast emptiness in a country in Africa then in the Netherlands. A lone biker climbing up from behind a dyke, looking over his shoulder to see what is there.

Harvester in a field in Friesland the north of The Netherlands, view from a dyke in the distance there are some sheep grazing and anxiously waiting for the few passers by to come nearer. It was a windy day, the windmills in the field were spinning in rapid fashion.

Summer in Friesland in the North of The Netherlands. In the upper most part of where land was taken from the sea. Lone dykes protect us from the sea. A red roof can be seen behind the dyke, a red pole with nothing around. From the dyke you can see the Wadden islands in the distance.
Perfecte dag aan het strand
Deze laatste week van oktober hadden we een paar zonnige dagen. Tot die tijd leek het constant te regenen, maar plotseling brak de zon door en hadden we drie prachtige, zij het koude, dagen. Op dinsdag kwam Ineke, die ik ken sinds we acht jaar oud waren, helemaal uit Enkhuizen om me op te halen in Amsterdam, en samen reden we naar Velzen-Noord. Daar is een klein strand en op de achtergrond zie je windmolens en rook van de fabriek van Tata Steel in IJmuiden. We liepen langs de pier naar de vuurtoren en terug, allebei foto’s makend. Daarna lunchten we buiten, zittend in de zon.
Even de boel de boel laten
Toen we 16 jaar oud waren, gingen Ineke en ik soms na school een biertje drinken en mompelden we “even de boel de boel laten” bij elk nieuw glas bier, wat zoiets betekent als even wegstappen uit je dagelijkse routine en alles even laten passeren. Natuurlijk hadden we op die leeftijd nog weinig zorgen, maar ik herinner me die ontspannen middagen.
Terwijl we die dag in oktober na onze wandeling aan het lunchen waren, herinnerde het me aan die tijd. Zittend in de zon, ontspannen en praten, voelde het vertrouwd en voelde ik me op mijn gemak. Het was een perfecte dag.
